How to use this well

  1. Turn the model to the side the spot is on, then tap it. Getting within a couple of centimetres is plenty โ€” the point is that you and the vet are looking at the same place.
  2. Measure it once, today. One number now is what makes every future number mean something. A ruler against it, or pick the fruit it is closest to.
  3. Measure it again in a few weeks. Two readings is a line; three is a trend, and a trend is the single most useful thing you can bring to an appointment.
  4. Photograph it with a ruler or a coin next to it. Photos stay on this device; they are there for you, and for showing rather than describing.
  5. If something has changed in how they are rather than on them โ€” drinking more, stiff getting up, off their food โ€” that belongs on the Behaviour tab. Same idea, different two facts: how often, and how bad.
